Get up-to-date with the African Union's plans to boost agricultural productivity.
The Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP), established in 2003, is an African-led initiative working to boost agricultural productivity. As a programme of the African Union, it emanates from and is fully owned and led by African governments. The programme builds on the commitments made by African heads of state in Maputo, 2003. The two main goals are to allocate 10% of the national budget for agricultural development, and pursue a 6% average annual sector growth. Although the process started off slow, CAADP is now quickly gaining ground as countries start signing compact agreements one after another. Agri-ProFocus wrote a desk review to provide up-to-date information on how the CAADP process is taking roots in several African countries and open up discussion on how we as a network can possibly link to this process.
