IICD People-ICT-DevelopmentWith the right information, people in developing countries can considerably improve their livelihoods and quality of life. Better access to information and communication technology (ICT) is particularly vital in enabling them to achieve their goals. This is why the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) helps create practical and sustainable solutions that connect people and enable them to benefit from ICT. For maximum impact we work closely with partners from the public, private and not-for profit sectors. Together, we make a world of difference.IICD is active in Africa and Latin-America where we bring about technical and social innovations that create and enhance development opportunities in education, good governance, livelihoods, health and the environment. We strive for a strong gender balance in all our activities and have made this an integral part of our approach which combines capacity development, knowledge sharing, lobbying and advocacy. Our overall aim is to help our local partners – teachers, farmers, health workers, local government officials and civil servants - to successfully formulate and implement their own ICT-supported development policies and programmes.
In 2009 IICD supported 136 projects, programmes and policy making processes reaching out to 722,000 end-users en 5.9 million beneficiaries.
