A producer organisation is a member organisation that fulfils one or more of the following functions:
- Production, processing and sale of agricultural products
- Advocacy and lobbying
- Provision of services to members
Producer organisations play an important role in building agricultural production, processing and trade capacities in developing countries.
They are also responsible for ensuring that the interests of the primary producers are reflected in balanced agricultural policies that
stimulate the agricultural sector. In this way, producer organisations can make a valuable contribution to economic development,
democracy building and poverty reduction in these countries.
